The second line was clicking tonight as the Blues beat the Rangers 4-1
The Blues opened up the scoring at 7:06 in the 1st period when Patrik Berglund corralled the puck near
the boards and fired a wrister past Lundqvist. The assists were credited to Steen and Jackman--Jackman was able to pass the puck to Steen from the Blue line, and Steen fired a blistering shot high which went to Berglund along the boards and he put it in the back of the net.
But the Blues didn't let up......
At 11:03 the second line produced another goal as Carlo Colaiacovo fired a shot from the point and David Perron deflected the puck beautifully past Lundqvist to put the Blues up 2-0...the assists went to Colaiacovo and Stewart.
At the end of the 1st period, the Blues dominated the flow of play....They outshot the Rangers 15-11 and went into the locker room with a 2-0 lead.
The Rangers started to stage a comeback late in the second period with a goal by Michael Del Zotto on only the second Ranger's shot of the period. The goal came at 16:18 as Del Zotto got the pass in the Blues zone with momentum and caught Elliot out of position and used the low backhand shot to put the Rangers up on the board. Assists went to Dubinsky and Callahan.
The Blues dominated much of the 2nd period, but the Rangers began to pour it on late and the late goal set up an interesting 3rd period of hockey...2-1 Blues at intermission.
The Blues came out and regained their 2 goal lead as the puck was "thrown" by a Ranger's defenseman at Alex Steen and it somehow bounced over Lundqvist and into the net......Assists go to Oshie and Polak at 1:01.
The Blues held the Rangers in what I considered a very boring but disciplined 3rd period by the Blues and at 17:43 Jason Arnott buried an empty net goal and gave the Blues a 4-1 lead that held up and became the final score.

-David Backes: The Blues captain was all over the ice tonight and though he didn't score, he had an assist, and his physical play helped to lead the Blues to a win
